DPS or DPET

Unread postby nathyiel Mon Jun 23, 2014 2:49 pm

What the difference between DPS and DPET ?
What are there use ?

DPS : Damage per Seconde.
It's the total of the damage of a spell compared to it's total duration. It include all ticks of a DoT but use it's whole duration. It's use cooldown for spell that have one.

DPET : Damage per Execute Time.
It's the total of the damage of a spell compared to it's cast time. It use cast time for spell with cooldown.

Usage :
DPS is used for comparing spell on the duration.
DPET is used for know what spell will do the most damage at any instant.

Example (fake number) :
Magus kill Warloket in 10s for a total of 10 000 HP. He deal 1000 Damage Per Second.
It's Water Elemental water bolt have 50 DPS, it's 5% of Magus's damage.
It's Frozen Orb have 25 DPS during 10s, so it deal 2.5% of the damage. But during it's duration, Magus also have cast other spell. It's show by a big DPET of 300.

In short :
DPET tell what spell is the best to cast. It give the spell's priority.
DPS give sell contribution in a fight. It explain the spell's utility.
