Every mage I see applies their mage bomb directly after their first cast , but doesn't it make more sense to apply it after the second so the first can land and most of the time proc something where it be meta/trinkets for a stronger snapshot?
ex. Arcane Blast>Living Bomb as opposed to Arcane Blast>Arcane Blast (for a chance of the first one proccing something)>Living Bomb
I might be missing something but to me it seems like it would be worth delaying applying bomb a gcd off the opener since there is a very high chance of meta/trinket procs off first cast. Of course this wouldn't too noticeable of a difference on dps (maybe on burst), but it seems like it could be worth it.
There's a lot of talk about snapshotting during rotation may or may not be worth it, but this post is specifically regarding the very opening of a fight.

Re: Regarding first opening Mage Bomb
There's multiple reasons:
- What if your stuff doesn't proc immediately? do you hold onto your bomb ever longer? If you wait another 1-2 casts, you're already almost halfway through your original bomb application if you just used it then.
- Bombs are actually your biggest proc generator (for arcane/frost at least). Without bomb, your trinkets will proc very slow. Considering how important it is to proc pboi fast (due to AT) you can't really delay one of your biggest proc generators.
- For fire, bomb increases all your nukes by 10%.

Re: Regarding first opening Mage Bomb
Korma has also done two great threads on if it is worth snap shotting for bombs. True, this is based on refreshing your bomb early rather than waiting for a buff proc to apply but I would guess similar results would be found. E.g. DPS lost by refreshing early would be similar to DPS lost by not having bombs ticking at all.
