Welcome to AT! Who are you? (Self Intro Thread)

Unread postby Komma Tue Jun 03, 2014 10:08 pm

With a new forum comes a lot of new faces and names that haven't been seen much in the mage community. Who are you? Why do you play a mage? What brought you to these forums? What are you looking to find here? :)

Let me start: I'm Komma, currently a heroic raiding mage in <Alone> on the Aerie Peak (US) server. I play mostly Arcane now, but usually just run with whatever works well for current content. I started by playing a fire mage in vanilla, during Blackwing Lair when they had half their bosses immune to fire (grumble  ). I was lurking in mage IRC channels, when Akraen invited me to join these forums as a moderator. :D I'm looking to help build this into the definite site for mages, and make it into a community where the best mages gather, exchange ideas, and help out everyone out. I didn't participate in many of the popular mage forums before now, because I didn't feel like any of them really fit the bill for what I wanted in a community.

So, who are you? :?:

I'm Crabmodem. I'm just getting back into raiding after taking off most of MoP to play GW2. I have played the same toon for most of my WoW. I did play a druid for my guild because they needed a druid but when I wasn't raiding it was on my mage. This was the first toon I rolled when the servers went live in 2004. Before I would be one those guys who would check the forums to see if what Iw as doing matched up with what the theory crafters were doing. After some things that has happened in the last few months I thought I should get back into talking to other mages and bounce idea since we are all going into a brave new world with WoD and a stat revamp (again, but at least we do not have to stack some spirit this time around) and a stat squish. Should be fun since this will be more like Pre BC gearing where you knew that your class had one item that went into that slot.

I'm Malon, a heroic raider and Mage player since classic. I play to raid, but I also love the story of Warcraft - I like to know why we're killing this week's big bad, not just because he has phat lewt.
IRL I'm a tech journalist, and am currently seeking to raise my freelancing gaming/tech writing profile. Outside of Altered Time I write for BlizzPro.com, tweet Mage tips at @ArcaneTactics and wrote (and look after) Wowhead's official Mage guide.

I'm Nathyiel.

I'm a fellow TC guy and a math nerd. In fact, I'm a fan of all TC things.
I start WoW for the opening of ICC. And I play more or less all content since then. I mostly did mid-HL PvE and casual PvP. If you want to decrease your arena rating, take me !

I start TC with Diablo II, along with some modding. It was the good old time. I used to be on EJ and mmo-C forum. I was never really on official forum at all. But I can be found on y tweeter account !!!

There's absolutely nothing wrong or gay with being a wedding planner. See the underwear thread for an idea of how I think about judgmental twats :P

I'd be a rubbish wedding planner, I would just tell people that they probably will be miserable and wish they never got married. I'm way too cynical for that.

May as well make a little post here. Most of you know me as DG/Durrtygoodz, more commonly known in game as Frenikk. I play in Project Apocalypse in EU servers! I started to raid right at the end of last tier as a boomkin. When I killed hc Garrosh this tier I decided to take mage more seriously and when my guild disbanded I swapped mage to it for my new guild.

I like to be as active as possible on various forums, mmoc, IV, etc and also on IRC. I spend most of my time complaining about warlocks and telling people their uptimes are bad. I'm here not only to help others but to learn more and get better at mage myself. So far this tier I've reviewed logs for probably a hundred mages and become much better in the process too.

Hello.

I'm Myxel. Heroic raider by night, student by day. I study photography, editing and other things revolving media. Fire became my love after Dragon Soul. Arcane felt to dull and Frost was just... no, for me. Raiding isn't always fun and you gotta switch specs around sometimes, granted. Nowadays I mostly PvP however on my Hunter which I've been extremely into the past few weeks. Farming SoO since November kinda drains your interest from the raid, hah. In the realm that we like to call "real-life" I don't do much at all, however I'm very into sports and especially e-Sports and spend many hours watching things like CS:GO championships etc. Aggressive inlining is my favorite out-doors activity but that is only during Summers and possibly spring-time aswell. Other than that I don't do much else, student life is quite simple.

Hello

I am Berlinia, known ingame as Elynae. The reason I swapped my name was that too many people thought I am german... I have played since Cataclysm, but actually played seriously since November 2013. I don't do PvP because I just don't like playing with Randoms which is essential if you want to get gear and experience.

In real life I am a student in not my final year of school. I want to study Mathematics in Groningen as sadly it's the only place they offer what I am looking for. I am a recent IRC lurker on the mages forums and a passionate frost mage.

Likes: Beer, teenage girls (I'm allowed to do that), food.
Dislikes: Durrtygoodz, the world, myself.

Cheers :)

Hi! I am Soggs and I am a mana addict. Jokes aside, I only recently came to mages. What startet as an alt in Dezember became my now new main, as I grew sick of the fact, that people expected my ele to have a healing offspec. Since then live felt good as a pure DPS, though sometimes I miss being able to heal myself properly and of course chain lightning.

I always soaked up on the math Binkenstein put up for elemental and now I try to give the community something back. Even if it is for mages.

My toon for reference: http://eu.battle.net/wow/en/character/e ... s/advanced" target="_blank
Shoot me a pm if you want me to elaborate on my crazy thoughts. I sometimes lose track of what I actually meant to say.

"The game isn't as simple as you."

Currently caught up in a game called Real Life. Activity may suffer from this.

I am an older player (age) and retired. I've been playing since 2004 -- and playing my mage since early 2005. She instantly became my favorite and while I've made all classes and leveled many to level cap (only to delete to make space), this mage is the only one I truly play the game on. All others are farming alts -- although I soon realized that if a farming alt is going to do any fighting, a mage alt for me is best -- so I have three level capped mages of different races, and a level 2 bank alt mage. I did pvp back in vanilla, sitting for hours in Ironforge waiting for the queues. I reached Marshal on Marthazon and was two weeks of play away from Field Marshal, when Blizzard changed the rules. Raiding is my game of choice -- and I try hard to stay up with what mages are doing and how to cope with changes made to the class.

I live in NC, although about a 20 minute walk to SC. WoW is my favorite hobby and keeps me off the streets and out of the casinos....

Hello!

My name is Ceraius and I plan to frequent these forums in the future for your guidance, revered master mages. /bow

My interest in mages has gone from none to fire to none to arcane to frost to none and back to frost through fire. At the moment I do not have a max level mage having used my WoD boost on a Priest. (Stupid me) I do have a mage in the works and I plan on hitting 90 with him in several weeks.

My current interest in the mage class lies in the Frost spec with Fire as a close second. The changes I've read up on for WoD have boosted that interest and while I could never abandon tanking on my main, the mage will very likely be my "primary alt." The mechanics of the new Frost Bomb being one of the more anticipated changes for me.

That's it for now. I'll be in touch when I go full retard on my mage.

Hey all :D Well, I've been around since 2005, but currently don't play (live in Japan and the timezone business is murder to consistency). I was a pretty serious poster on subcreation.net, if anyone remembers Alcaras' board. We were minimally efamous during the birth of theorycrafting for WoW with Lhivera and Murphid and all those guys. Anyway, I've been playing a mage for quite a long time and love pretty much everything about the class with some glaring exceptions in the recent direction of the game but, c'est la vie. Anyway, looking forward to some good discussions and shooting the shit, etc. Also, fuck warlocks (seriously though I leveled one to 90 this xpac and holy fuck, they are amazing. /weep).

Little bit about my start:

I hate multiplayer games, but I was convinced to get into WoW in May 2005, quite literally against my will. I played a druid, Akraen of course, from that point right up until Patch 5.0. I wasn't interested in raiding until I went to a Molten Core run and was asked to heal. I realized I had a bit of a knack for raiding because on Lucifron I immediately noticed things other people did wrong and felt very comfortable with my healing.

I later realized I was healing "incorrectly" according to the forum posts about restoration druids. I decided to defend my approach to downranked Regrowth weaving with Rank 2-4 HT's. I had so much evidence for my claim but it was pretty well ignored mostly because few people even cared about theorycraft back then. Or if they did-- I could not find those people.

Then I went bear druid after a massive burnout on 4H in Naxx40. I more or less vowed to never raid again. In my retirement I created my guild, Natural Order (September 2006) just so people would stop asking why I was guildless. I tried to do some RP but people were more interested in ERP and tea parties than actual lore or emotive acting.

Burning Crusade came and I tried to use my small group of a dozen ex-hardcore raider friends as "consultants" to help other guilds. Basically mercenaries for hire, but for free. It worked for a time but we realized our efforts could just go towards our own progression so I gathered a dozen good players and some really awful (not even level 70 yet) people and went into Gruul's Lair. Got Maulgar down with a few level 68's in the group. Once again, fighting convention, I was a stamina-stacking bear. At the time it seemed nobody followed my strategy but Sejta. As the expansion progressed I started to get into theorycrafting but it seemed like everyone blindly followed the mitigation weights Astrylian put into Rawr without taking into consideration the value of survival stats and TTL. It really bugged me.

WotLK I got to go cat some, the height of my enjoyment in the game was cat form in Ulduar. I'm not sure it can ever get that fun again. It was definitely the only time I truly felt like the game was a challenge, pacing was tough-- it would be something like playing 2 frost mages simultaneously. It was glorious and I got amazing results. Once again, theorycraft-- I stacked agility over armor penetration because I calculated the DoT (not affected by armor) damage. Once again, rawr disagreed with me and I was not well known enough to take on Astrylian on forums so I just kept to myself and kept giving amazing results, some top ranks on WWS for Ulduar HMs.

Cataclysm came and it was back to bear, always tank issues and the guild just operated best when I tanked. I was burnt out from ICC though and constant role switching. Cata wasn't any easier. Cataclysm was a grindstone on my will to live for a number of reasons, many guild-related but also I was working 14 hour days. We still killed everything on heroic in good time but weren't in the top 100. I was okay with that, but I finally snapped when 5.0 hit and I felt they finally destroyed every aspect of the druid class I liked. I didn't make any emo posts or anything about it. Just what I wanted for druid (hybrid, jack of all trades, multi-roles, multi-stat) wasn't their vision. My AQ40 style Genesis druid dream would never come true, and Heart of the Wild wasn't enough recompense.

I had my mage since vanilla. I leveled my mage as a human named Jolear on US-Argent Dawn by stacking ... of Frozen Wrath gear and AoE-farming. Once I got to level 60 I was already exalted with the Argent Dawn and had a Talisman of Ascendance! I would regularly challenge myself by doing trash farming in Zul'gurub on my own. I remember watching the Forsaken Chinese frost mage's videos (he listened to Inez and Scooter lol) and trying to emulate his raw skill at never getting hit.

I loved my mage and always kept him geared up. In tier 6 I ignored hit rating entirely and devised my own strategy: haste. Yeeepppp I've been stacking haste since 2007 guys. We defeated Archimonde once and I was top damage by a mile while wearing Frozen Shadoweave gear and assorted haste pieces, including some blues. I recall missing like 20 frostbolts over the fight, but still having far more land than anyone else with a much higher active time. It truly worked to ignore +hit then.

Anyway I decided to write some RP about why Jolear died and Akraen became a mage (I have to be Akraen, too many years of being known as Akraen). It all went smoothly. As I got into Tier 14 though I realized I had no idea how to play a ranged caster. I died a lot with the really awful Invocation. Eventually I picked it up though and was proving frost was pretty powerful. Only one of our warlocks really beat me regularly.

By the time I got into Tier 15, Hanodar suggested I post in the community and get to know Kuni a bit more. I did, and since then Kuni has really been the example of a stand-up fella who knows his stuff and would never steer anyone wrong. I felt like I needed a way to communicate some of my controversial theorycraft ideas though so I went on to create an "image" for myself. I knew I'd never give up my own guild and its history to join a top guild (debated joining Midwinter when Cactipete gave me the invite, no regrets but I love those guys). So given all that, I had to create some sort of image in order to overcome the lack of significance among heroic raiders.

I did it and that's basically how we got here. My part in the mage community is this:
