Apparently PC has a summon event, but not a demise event. Not very convenient for number crunching. As a substitute, I had to look for a debuff that could be placed on PC, since debuffs have a removal effect upon despawn. Similarly, I don't trust the summon event, so I had to find a ground effect that would automatically place a debuff on PC upon it becoming targetable.

After juggling around a few options, here's the testing methodology I ended up using:
1. Cast Ring of Frost.
2. Cast PC on RoF. Upon summon, PC has an "Immune" event - count this as the starting time.
3. Cast Frost Bomb on PC.
4. Upon despawn, PC has a "Frost Bomb removed" event - count this as ending time.

Here's what I got:
5/9 21:49:32.251 SPELL_SUMMON,Player-1426-0767AA65,"Hyphun-AeriePeak",0x511,0x0,Creature-0-3020-1159-11832-76933-0000313E35,"Prismatic Crystal",0xa28,0x0,152087,"Prismatic Crystal",0x1

Garrison test 2: 12.310 seconds.

I then went to Stormshield on Stormrage server (a very crowded area) to see if latency did anything.

Seems like server lag plays a very big part in terms of PC's duration. There isn't really a static number you can assign to it.

Prismatic Crystal takes totem slot 1. You can get the start time and duration from GetTotemInfo().

Garrison test 1: 12.228 seconds.
Garrison test 2: 12.310 seconds.
Stormshield test 1: 13.144 seconds
Stormshield test 2: 13.010 seconds
Stormshield test 3: 13.126 seconds
That probably supports a thesis that the servers clock their FPS or updates dynamically based on load (or they're just overloaded, but I doubt it's simple as that during a regular(non-launch) day).

Pretty smart way to get those events by the way. I hope there are no caveats to the method. I can't think of any.

edit: It's very likely the inconsistency is tied to the individual 12 power-dropping updates of the crystal itself because while they are only around 1 sec apart they don't look very consistent in timings and it appears if the update was only 1 full 12sec one, there would be less inconsistency. It's probably where the quirk could be fixed. Of course, seeing the spell entirely removed now, it's probably pointless asking Blizzard about it.

Cool! Feels good to have this confirmed :) Always felt like it was something like this throughout the expansion

One BIG thing I've also noticed, is sometimes the crystal would expire with energy left, while sometimes it would have no energy for a split second but still be attackable.
