[TC] 6.0.2 SimC Profiles with/without burn phase

Hi All,

There is a lot of confusion about if we should be using the burn / conserve rotation or not in 6.0.2. This morning I did a very quick test and I'm sure someone could take this further, but it is slightly better not to burn and this will be because we don't have the level 92+ perks to make the burn work properly.

The test I did was take the standard APL "Mage_Arcane_T16M" contained in the latest public version of Sim C, run the profile with 25k iterations and then run the same profile but comment out the line "actions+=/call_action_list,name=burn,....".

The results:
Mage_Arcane_T16M_WithBurn : 22286 dps
Mage_Arcane_T16M_WithoutBurn : 22478 dps

An increase of 0.9%.

I don't know how to do the automated tests to see if these results are reflected for all talent combinations, so I will leave that for someone else to play with.

Update.

I just tried shortening the fight lengths because everything is dropping so quickly in SoO these days and the results are reversed.

Mage_Arcane_T16M_WithBurn_100sec : 26533 dps
Mage_Arcane_T16M_WithoutBurn_100sec : 26395 dps

Mage_Arcane_T16M_WithBurn_150sec : 24793 dps
Mage_Arcane_T16M_WithoutBurn_150sec : 24689 dps

Giving an average of 0.5% increase if you use the burn rotation on short fights.

I decided to take this a step further today (because I'm bored at work) and started playing around with the mana %% before using evocation I also checked to see if using http://www.wowhead.com/spell=11958" target="_blank has any effect as this will mean you burn mana faster shortening the time between starting the burn phase and using evocation.

*** Note: This was done using my live character profile which is not quite BiS, using 100 second fight length and 50,000 iterations.

Mmmm. Did you only change the evocation mana threshold, or did you also change the mana burn target level from the parent action list?

Either case, this is good info to have.

Just the mana threshold. E.g.

actions.burn+=/evocation,interrupt_if=mana.pct>92,if=time_to_die>10&mana.pct<50

became

actions.burn+=/evocation,interrupt_if=mana.pct>92,if=time_to_die>10&mana.pct<70
