[Mini Guide] How to pick your relics

It's always best to sim your own character for the best results, since results may vary depending on gear / talents

Single target:

Worth ~15 ilvls:
- Pyroblast damage

Worth ~10 ilvls:
- ignite damage
- fireball cast time

Worth ~5 ilvls:
- Fire crit damage

2+ targets

Worth ~15 ilvls:
- Pyroblast damage
- Ignite damage

Worth ~10 ilvls:
- Fireball cast time

Worth ~5 ilvls:
- Fire crit damage


All other relics are worth less than 5 ilvls in terms of damage, and thus not worth taking over a higher ilvl relic.

What this means
If a relic is worth ~15 ilvls, it means that it's about as good as a relic that's not worth any ilvls, even when it's 15 ilvls lower. It's always worse than something 20 ilvls higher, and always better than something 10 ilvls higher.

Examples

ilvl 840 pyroblast damage vs ilvl 850 blink healing: Pick pyroblast relic
ilvl 840 fireball cast time vs ilvl 850 blink healing: It's about equal, fireball will probably be a (TINY) bit more dps.
ilvl 840 ignite damage vs ilvl 850 blink healing: Ignite damage. It's equal on single target, but a big increase on multiple targets

does this take into account the intellect you lose on your weapon dropping such high item levels in your relics?

Yes , the point is to compare the Dmg gain by the Relic vs the Int/crit loss by the higher ilvl

Does anyone have a overwiew of where the different relic's drop?
Im currently way behind on relics, as I have been very unlucky. I got 2 x 840 fire (fireball dmg and pyro dmg) and a 850 arcane with blink. My ilvl is 858 so this is holding me back.

Would love to see a list where its best to farm for relics. I do EN HC clear every week, but Im thinking mythic+.

That's the big problem right now. There are two sources of fire Pyroblast relics, one is from NL, the other from a world quest that never seems to start higher than 825, and one arcane relic from DHT. With the way the M+ loot system works, getting one at a high ilvl is at best a crap shoot. Your best bet would have been to chain run DHT/NL +2s, but most of the low level keystones are used up and people aren't grinding them as much due to the AP nerf.

Arcane ignite artifact is easily obtainable from Xavius in EN raid.

Problem is with fire artifact, cast time is from Il'gynoth but this relic is not great (good but not great).

Unluckily there is no other choice other than farming Neltharion's Lair / CoS with people who can get it so they can trade you if it drops.

one could assume that, since int scales exponentially with ilvl (weapon), the difference may shrink at higher levels.
problem is that i have a feeling that pyro-dps will be even stronger if you're running marquee's :/

Is an 870 Blink healing relic better than an 845 Pyro relic.

It's only 7 weapon item levels I'm really not convinced. It's quite hard to get a nice Arcane Pyro relic so I don't want to make the change unless it's a noticable upgrade.

Fire - Unholy DK, Guardian Druid, Ret Paladin, Enhance Shaman, Demon Warlock, Destro Warlock, Prot Warrior, Fury Warrior

Arcane - Vengeance DH, Balance Druid, Beast Mastery Hunter, Prot Paladin

Unfortunately, out of the 108 relics (36 Artifacts x 3 relics) only seven specs use Arcane, and three of those are mage.

I typically run with a DK tank and a Destro Warlock, and we've started adding a Fury Warrior into the mix...the DK tank has said he'll loot spec unholy for me for a boss here and there, if I can figure out where the items drop, but he's worried he'll get a DPS legendary, so I don't REALLY want to ask him to do that, lol.

My ideal team: DK tank and Pally heals (can share plate loot), Warlock and two mage dps (can share cloth loot and relic overlap)
