Fire mage DPS comparison Live vs PTR build 7.1.5 (23109)
Fire mage DPS comparison Live vs PTR build 7.1.5 (23109)
Simple 2 combustion rotation comparing the most recent PTR build with current live.
No legendaries were used and the gearset/talents are identical.
I am aware the opening rotation in the PTR video was a bit off due to jumps in latency on the test realm.

Do you have a TLDR for those of us who can't watch videos in the office?
Re: Fire mage DPS comparison Live vs PTR build 7.1.5 (23109)
100k less dps.
Re: Fire mage DPS comparison Live vs PTR build 7.1.5 (23109)
Could a dummy fight be uploaded to wclogs? It would be super cool if someone 5-minute dummy comparison PTR vs live. That way we could at least see how abilities damage pie has shifted.

You, Sir, I like you.Do you have a TLDR for those of us who can't watch videos in the office?
Re: Fire mage DPS comparison Live vs PTR build 7.1.5 (23109)
I sure can if it's possible to log such a thing. I'll play with it now and hopefully get some results up.Could a dummy fight be uploaded to wclogs? It would be super cool if someone 5-minute dummy comparison PTR vs live. That way we could at least see how abilities damage pie has shifted.
Edit: I've tried to log the dummy but there are a few errors (flame wreath not considered properly) so will have to tinker with it another time or maybe find a different dummy.

Re: Fire mage DPS comparison Live vs PTR build 7.1.5 (23109)
I ran hours of tests last night as a fire mage with the following stats on live:
881 equipped ilvl
62% crit
18% haste
12% mastery
Marquee bindings
I was averaging about a 85k dps loss, but the swing could go as high as 100k+ loss. My damage is not only less consistent, but significantly impacted. This DPS loss will be even more impactful with the loss of Ice Floes in real situations. I can also say that I'm having significantly less fun playing with the changes.

How does Hot Streak generation feel between bursts? I haven't had time to log into the PTR to test it out.

Let's just say you're going to be casting more fireballs. How does Hot Streak generation feel between bursts? I haven't had time to log into the PTR to test it out.
Re: Fire mage DPS comparison Live vs PTR build 7.1.5 (23109)
That's kind of what I figured. It's also why I've been on my "let us bank Heating Up again" kick.
I don't imagine the new Flame On makes it feel much better?

You'll still be in many situations where you cast several fireballs in a row without a Hot Streak. That is my experience, at least. That's kind of what I figured. It's also why I've been on my "let us bank Heating Up again" kick.

A character by the name of Roila has a comment about fireball crits and hot streak in this thread if you want to take a look:

Re: Fire mage DPS comparison Live vs PTR build 7.1.5 (23109)
I posted this last night, so I'll throw it in here, because I'm talking about the idea behind it, namely that Hot Streak is the only proc that can fall off if we don't get two procs in a row of something, and that proc is tied to crit.
Hot Streak is too vital to the rotation, and with the way it works on live scales quadratically with crit: HS_Chance = crit_value^2, and any given increase in crit becomes MORE valuable the more crit we already have.
Anyway, http://us.battle.net/forums/en/wow/topic/20752168438.

Fire mage Set bonuses Dps Test PTR build 7.1.5 (23138)
Set bonus dps test
With the lack of crit stats on the gear, it appears to offset the bonuses themselves. This test was done without legendaries so the extra haste from the 4 set will obviously benefit pyro hardcasts.
Not a fan of the lack of crit on the set pieces at all...

Re: Fire mage Set bonuses Dps Test PTR build 7.1.5 (23138)
From what I've found on the PTR so far, the vast reduction in our crit is partially offset by the 2 piece set bonus, but there are some definite holes left. The 2 piece bonus essentially means that you'll get the same level of enhanced pyrotechnic stacking as you do right now, so the 2 piece compensates for the loss of crit to fireball. What it doesn't compensate for at all is the loss of crit to Pyroblast. So with the 2 piece, we should be seeing around the same number of Hot Streaks generated solo (ie, getting a fireball crit and hitting Fire blast), but we'll see far fewer Hot Streaks back to backing each other (ie, casting fireball into instant pyro and getting a Hot Streak back).
We'll have to see how things shake out as Blizz finalizes the class changes, but with the horrible stats on our tier set, I wonder if the 4 piece is even worth it.

Re: Fire mage DPS comparison Live vs PTR build 7.1.5 (23109)
My Experience was:
In a roughly 3-4 Min fight
on fire
Live 400k dps
ptr 280k dps
Without Heroism, Pots Flask or anything else of course.
with having average crit luck on ptr, 65% on pyroblast which is pretty good with a 52% critical chance.
I also tested Arcane with my fire gear, without Legendaries and with a lack of skills for Arcane, still outdpsd the ptr fire. Thats just kinda sad.

Can you please make a screenshot of the final results?
Re: Fire mage DPS comparison Live vs PTR build 7.1.5 (23109)
30-40k loss, although a sample of 1 is not exactly representative.
Re: Fire mage DPS comparison Live vs PTR build 7.1.5 (23109)
Is there an equipment list comparison between the two tests?
Or just a stat dump? (Int, crit, haste, mastery, vers) for us to compare?
Most importantly, PTR uses the set bonuses.
I'm really not a fan of set bonuses being staples to 'fix' things, because they are gone afterwards.
Enhanced Pyrotechnics at 20% fixes a lot of problems with the lower crit levels. IMO it should've been baseline @ 20%, with the set bonus reworked into something else.
Well, that sucks because we won't have access to this 2pc for a long time, and it's going to be pretty much mandatory.
