Multi-targetting

Unread postby Xeno Thu Oct 05, 2017 2:43 am

Just wondering when it comes to multiple targets, should you be tab targetting through them all to spread blast furnace and/or conflag?

No need, conflag spreads automatically with ignite and blast furnace doesn't do any damage.

Well technically the Conflagration debuff is only applied to the main target by fireball, but ignite also benefits from the flare up portion of it, which spreads.
But both blast furnace and conflag do negligible damage and even if you did swap targets to apply these, you would most likely end up losing damage as a result of a weaker ignite on the main target. So it would not be advisable to swap targets.

Alrighty so lets say in M+, you generally always want to focus in on the add that will live the longest and when nearing its death, start pumping damage into a new target that will live longer? (IE - your target will die in a couple of seconds, start dps on the next highest hp/longest living target)

As long as you don't swap target every pyroblast, you should be fine with whatever you do in m+. And any larger changes to how you handle multi-targeting will be due to affixes, keystyone level, legendaries, and talents.

Alrighty. Also so at 4+ targets you should flamestrike? Is there any times you should just pump out pyro's at the primary target and forget flamestrike if even you have 4+ targets?

I'd say as a general rule 3-4 targets when running with Flame Patch, if you are running Living Bomb I'd say 5+ before you start replacing pyro with flame strikes.

However, it would probably be better to think of it as "Will the mobs live long enough for my primary targets ignite to deal significant damage to the rest?" If this is a yes, then I would usually just keep on nuking the primary target and let ignite do the cleaving.
Also it is important to not forget about mastery when ever you consider letting ignite do the work, as if you are lacking in mastery then flame strike will quickly pull ahead of any potential ignite damage.

If the adds live less than 9 seconds you are only gonna get 1-2 flamestrikes out vs 3-4 pyros on the main target + at least some ignite damage on the adds. So there would have to be a lot of adds to make it worth it imo. I'm making the assumption here you lose out on heating up as a result of the flamestrike causing you to get less hot streaks over that period resulting in a smaller ignite and less damage on the boss.
