Gearing to raid via PvP- Rotation change?
Gearing to raid via PvP- Rotation change?
Hello everyone!
I enjoy PvPing, and usually gear up with a full Conquest set before stepping into my first raid every tier. With the advent of cool spec specific set bonuses, will this change my Fire rotation?
I.e. In a raid/dungeon environment would it be a DPS gain to make use of my PvP set bonuses?
The PvP set bonuses are:
2-Piece: Casting Scorch reduces the cast time and increases the critical strike chance of Fireball and Frostfire Bolt by 15%, stacking up to 3 times.
4-Piece: When you consume Hot Streak, your Pyroblast target has a 15% increased chance to be critically hit by your Fireball or Frostfire Bolt spell for 10 sec.

That 2-Piece seems pretty mean for the first few weeks of Highmaul mythic progression if you do it as Fire. High movement bosses and such.

There's also a bug that's currently stopping Frostfire bolt from consuming the 2 set buff from the PvP set. I feel like I can actually do some damage again
My rotation is:
Scorch x3 > FFB x2 > Scorch x1 (to keep the buff) > FBB x2 > Scorch x1... etc.
With the usual Pyro camp and blast on proc.

For obvious reasons I don't think this will be staying. There's also a bug that's currently stopping Frostfire bolt from consuming the 2 set buff from the PvP set. I feel like I can actually do some damage again

Re: Gearing to raid via PvP- Rotation change?
Yeah, understandable. But fingers crossed they fix the spec before they axe the only thing making it even playable. A bug this huge is supposed to be game-breakingly-overpowered. But I just feel it lifted the spec from bad to average. For obvious reasons I don't think this will be staying.
Re: Gearing to raid via PvP- Rotation change?
Likely, considering Fireball does consume the stacks.
However, having to cast Scorch really lowers the overall DPS; the spell's damage is simply too small and doesn't benefit from either PvP set bonuses. You have to cast 3 in order to get the full benefit and have cast every often to maintain a 8s buff; that's a lot of time wasted with Scorches.
This only worsens when they revert the hotfixes, as Scorch is dealing the expected damage; FB, FFB, Pyro and IB will have their damage raised, making Scorch an even bigger DPS drop.
I'd like to see it modeled, to see how much difference using this bug actually makes and how well it compensates for the frequent Scorches.

This is extremely interesting, and I would really want to try it if pyro camping with scorch weren't a huge pain to simulateI'd like to see it modeled, to see how much difference using this bug actually makes and how well it compensates for the frequent Scorches.

By the way, Kindling becomes very useful for this gameplay, as you get guarenteed crits almost every ~1.2s.
Seems that they're waiting for raid data to make balance adjustments; if they don't fix this bug quickly, Fire PvErs may be forced to get Conquest gear in order to raid competitively.

Re: Gearing to raid via PvP- Rotation change?
Seeing some very strong numbers from a couple mages running the 2 set bonus. 98% uptime on ignition. UM/IF/Met (RoP with less movement). 100% crit rate on FB. Wish I'd started farming this gear earlier...

Guess I'll start having to hop into Arena on the weekends...

I'm surprised that they haven't fixed this yet. I wonder what's taking so long?
Re: Gearing to raid via PvP- Rotation change?
Probably not enough people abusing it yet in raids.

Re: Gearing to raid via PvP- Rotation change?
Pretty much this. Just noticed some really good numbers from another mage on my server and realized what he was doing. The mages I've seen in the lead mythic kills were Frost.Probably not enough people abusing it yet in raids.
I expect this to be killed once they pick up on it. I could see the bonus being useful way beyond Highmaul otherwise.
Re: Gearing to raid via PvP- Rotation change?
Can someone test the scorch-FFB interaction? I've heard reports of it being fixed.
Re: Gearing to raid via PvP- Rotation change?
I can confirm that this was fixed today
Re: Gearing to raid via PvP- Rotation change?
Great... Got my 2 piece today. Would be great if WCL would remove the buggy Fire parses. My Raidlead frowns upon me only reaching 50% of the rank limits...
To be honest, I still think 4 piece will be better than 670 items in each slot. Can anyone confirm that?

Re: Gearing to raid via PvP- Rotation change?
^ exactly.
You have a perfectly itemized Head, Wrist, and Cloak for Fire from the conquest gear (660 pieces with Crit+Mastery). Not to mention those Weapons (also 660, with Crit+Mastery), though I'm unsure if they're better than the Staff that drops from Imperator considering HC ilvl is 670.
Though I'd like direct everyone's attention to the 4-set PvP bonus. Even after the 2-set was fixed, the 15% Crit from the 4-set bonus is a lot, and I don't think four pieces of PvE gear will make up for it (especially considering the lack of Crit pieces that drop from Highmaul, and how easy it is to maintain the 4-set debuff). Talking about non-mythic gear of course. Would sacrificing 670 ilvl gear, for 660 ilvl better-itemized-and-with-a-set-bonus PvP gear, be worth it?
