How do we fit Meteor into the rotation

Unread postby Velerion Tue Dec 09, 2014 7:06 am

As the title says. I understand that Meteor adds to ignite and lines up with combustion so it seems pretty decent. But the 3 second delay on it seems odd to me and I'm not sure what the best way to go about this is.

I usually do wait until I get a Pyro proc, then Fireball -> Meteor -> Pyro, which would get me a relative nice ignite. If anymore Pyro procs within that, all the more better.

It should be easier to get pyro chains with the Fire buffs.

What I've found works really well is Get a Pyroblast! proc, then keep casting fireball and as soon as you have Heating Up (With the Pyroblast!), use a macro: (Since you'll be mid cast on the next fireball by the time your previous one hits the target and gives you the Heating Up buff)

#showtooltip
/stopcasting
/cast Meteor

Drop the meteor on the target, while it's on the delay wind up a fireball then immediately follow with the Pyroblast. If the fireball or pyroblast crit your Heating Up will upgrade to the Pyroblast! giving you a 2nd Pyroblast, fire that off, then combust/inferno blast.

So. Get HU+P. Meteor -> FB -> PB -> PB -> Combustion -> IB.

*Edit*

Once we have more crit/4pcT17 you will have the possibility to remove the FB from right after the meteor to increase your combustion even more.

Quick note: I was helping a guildie with /stopcasting macros last night, and if you find that the one above doesn't work for you, then put in another /stopcasting line, as follows:

#showtooltip
/stopcasting
/stopcasting
/cast Meteor

... I'm not sure why this works, but it does.

I'm kinda confused why you folks are talking about /stopcasting macros. Interrupting a Fireball for Meteor seems like a really bad idea.

That's the tradeoff for a higher ignite and a stronger combustion that will hopefully make up for the loss of a fireball.

Meteor lands a few seconds after casting it, so i'm still not sure why you would stop casting for it

The only time I've ever found a stopcasting macro useful is on combustion. Other than that, it's pretty much always a dps loss. With the amount of crit we have at the moment I am finding that it doesnt really matter when I cast meteor and you are best off using it on cooldown when you know you are not going to munch a pyro proc.

The reasons they are talking about stopcasting for Meteor is they want to get a Pyro and a heating up, then cast meteor followed by Fireball into hopefully a nice Pyroblast chain. You have to stop casting once you see the heating up to cast Meteor otherwise you would finish the Fireball cast, use your Pyroblast and risk not having both buffs again.

I don't know if this is best but doing it makes the meteor land right as your Fireball and Pyroblast are hitting, seems to make a decent Ignite.

what I generally do is get Pyroblast!, cast 1 Fireball, Use Meteor, Throw the Pyro and hope it crits. Then Combust.

Well, at least for me it depends on my trinket + weapon enchant proc as well. On my pull, for example, I usually get both procs, so it goes something like this:

(normal pre-pull stuff, like pots, MI, etc)
- Pyroblast right before pull
- Fireball (while both weapon and trinket procs happen)
- Meteor (assuming HU + Pyro!)
- Fireball + Pyroblast!
- Pyroblast!
- Pyroblast!
- Combustion

Because of the weapon and trinket proc, my crit % get to something like 66%, which pretty much guarantees a few crit strikes. That gets me a Combustion on the ballpark of 6k - 7k, maybe even a little more if the Pyros! crit. That with 660 ilvl gear.

During the fight, when I can't guarantee that procs will align with my Combustion, I usually go with something like this:

(HU and Pyro! procs are up)
- Meteor
- Fireball + Pyroblast!
- Pyroblast!
- Combustion

The thing with Meteor is that I try to avoid stopcasting, but at the same time I delay 0.5 - 1.0 sec to see if I got both HU and Pyro! procs. May not be ideal, some DPS loss, but the Combustion more than makes up for it, in my humble opinion.

You absolutely don't want to stopcasting for meteor. As I've described in my guide:
Combustion rotation:
For combustion, you want to make sure, (especially on your opener) that your trinkets and ring etc are procced before starting the combustion rotation below. Also use any on-use effects during it.

- [With http://www.wowhead.com/spell=153561/meteor" target="_blank talented]: Firstly, make sure meteor and combustion are both off cooldown, then:
1. Cast http://www.wowhead.com/spell=133/fireball" target="_blank until http://www.wowhead.com/spell=48107/heating-up" target="_blank procs.
2. Cast http://www.wowhead.com/spell=108853/inferno-blast" target="_blank to turn Heating Up into http://www.wowhead.com/spell=48108/pyroblast" target="_blank proc. (never interrupt a cast for this)
3. Continue casting fireballs until you get a new Heating Up proc.
4. Cast http://www.wowhead.com/spell=11366/pyroblast" target="_blank when you got both Pyroblast! proc and Heating Up proc and there's a fireball in the air flying towards the boss.
5. Cast http://www.wowhead.com/spell=153561/meteor" target="_blank on the boss
6. Keep casting any extra pyroblast! procs you got left onto the boss (usually just one, sometimes two)
7. Make sure the last pyroblast landed on the boss, and cast http://www.wowhead.com/spell=11129/combustion" target="_blank, if there's any adds/cleave potential, make sure you spread combustion afterwards with inferno blast if there's any nearby targets.
