Frost AoE rotation for Mythic Antoran Command

Unread postby rotirahn Thu Apr 19, 2018 1:22 pm

Hi guys,

I ma hoping i am not breaking any rules by asking this but I searched the documentation and forum history and couldn't get my hands on this information. I am basically curious about what kind of rotation are you using as frost spec for mythic antoran high command encounter. On this fight I find myself very much at the end of my guild and worse i am usually on the lowest percentile in warcraft logs.

Here is a link from my last encounter logs : https://www.warcraftlogs.com/reports/7v ... amage-done

I know for a fact that I am doing something wrong. My main rotation consists of saving frozen orb for add spawns and using blizzard with instant procs. Otherwise I keep my usual rotation and I am specced only for Arctic Gale as an extra. I also use blizzard if adds are still there but my instant blizzard casts are finished.

I am happy to get any help, thanks!

Hey!

I tried finding a log of mine of similiar kill time as comparison. Here it is: https://www.warcraftlogs.com/reports/Z8 ... amage-done

Hero timing:
The first thing I immediatly noticed is the hero usage. You're making use of 3 heros which is great, but they dont overlap with your Icy Veins at all. What you should do instead is use YOUR hero on pull and ask the shaman to save his. This way your hero cd starts ticking. When your next IV is available you call out for his hero, and by the time your 3rd IV comes up your own hero should be almost ready. By simple changing who uses hero, they all overlap with IV, and thats a big thing for your dps.
Your IV+Hero: https://www.warcraftlogs.com/reports/7v ... source=221
My IV+Hero: https://www.warcraftlogs.com/reports/Z8 ... &source=15

About your rotation.
Saving orb for adds is only worth it if they spawn within 10seconds of the orb coming off cd. If thats not the case, just use it, or you're gonna miss out on orbs over the long run. If you're saving frozen orb you want to check the add timers and use it about 2 seconds before the spawn and then blizzard afterwards, so the blizzard is up the moment the adds spawn. If you're late with blizzards you will miss out on CD refunds on orb since the adds charge out pretty quickly. Also you want to use it as long as there are at least 2 mobs up, so whenever the pyromancer still is alive or any bats, use it. You seem to cast too little.
You did 29 blizzards with 641 hits: https://www.warcraftlogs.com/reports/7v ... source=221
I did 48 blizzards with 1116 hits: https://www.warcraftlogs.com/reports/Z8 ... &source=15
Another thing you could do it to ask your resto druid to use vortex on the adds, that will pull the chargers back onto the boss giving you more blizzard ticks. (Should ask this on 2nd wave since 1st add wave is most likely to get obliterated).
Don't compare the amount of orbs 1 on 1, since I used tier20 which gives you 4secs of cd back on every flurry. I also didn't go into the pod. If you have high tier20 pieces its worth using on fights like this and eonar etc, but you should sim that to be sure (sim like 3 targets or so).

CD usage:
Make sure you actually use your cooldowns too! For example you missed out on 1 Ebonbolt, and your second IV was 2.54minutes into the fight while it should be ready way earlier. This costed you a 4th IV at the very end probably and thats a big dps loss!
Your IV casts: https://www.warcraftlogs.com/reports/7v ... lity=12472
My IV casts: https://www.warcraftlogs.com/reports/Z8 ... lity=12472
Tactics:
I know you went into the pod at 2.15 so your IV was kinda screwed, but this was basically the worst timing ever to go into the pod. You want to go inside once your cds are done so they recharge. This costed you a lot. Try swapping with people have a 3min cd for example. Best would be to go inside on 3rd pod since you miss less adds so less blizzards missed. If you talk about this to your raid leader, this isn't for add padding, this is for boss dmg.
pod order: https://www.warcraftlogs.com/reports/7v ... ity=244172.
Also note how you guys have a lot of downtime. Everytime noone is in the pod you lose a total of 15% extra dmg for free on the boss. Thats insane.
Compare it to ours: https://www.warcraftlogs.com/reports/Z8 ... ity=244172
It's not perfect but a lot better, giving us more dmg on the boss. We had this similiar kill time with an avg of 12 ilvl lower than your raid.

Opener:
A little less important but note how my 1st IV happens prepull. At 3 seconds I start casting Ebonbolt, then hit IV, then Flurry and then IL (so this IL already increases my IV duration). Everything should hit around 0 sec. You actually use your IV after your Ice lance so it doesnt extend (im pretty sure, unless you used IV be4 IL hits the boss, but you still miss out on bonus dmg on flurry)
Your cast sequence: https://www.warcraftlogs.com/reports/7v ... w=timeline
My cast sequence: https://www.warcraftlogs.com/reports/Z8 ... w=timeline
I probably was the first one to pull here tho, seeing the flurry isnt on there, so be careful with your timing and think about travel time.

I hope this helped! Good luck!

Oh man, this helped so much more than you can imagine. Thank you so much for taking time to make such an extensive analysis! I will spend some time now to get what you said to my muscle memory and share results here after the next raid! Big thanks!

By the way I have picked apart your logs and talents long before this post by chance as I was looking to best geared mages in eu for analysis. It is an honor to get a response from you :)

Thank you! Also gl next week. Remember that not everything is suddenly going to be perfect. Practise is key. If you have a hard time dealing with everything at the same time, try to perfect 1 thing first and then move onto to next topic. Also, no pull is the same, so next week can look worse even if you played better, if the raid dps on adds higher is for example. Try to look at potential wipes too for improvement!

Ps. if you have an aoe trinket you should probably use it! The one from garothi is pretty good for frost.
