Hi mages,

With the recent hotfix, I plan on playing frost the next week. I have a problem with gems: what gems do you take? Haste, mastery? Or you're taking crit to reach the shatter cap?

I have been wondering this myself..I have gone all out haste but not sure what the best gems are tbh.

I've gone all out Mastery just to push the single target (iirc Mastery > Haste for ST), and also because I enjoy my Arcane spec.

gem haste crit until you have 36% crit and around 50%+ haste, after that go mastery

yes, for all three specs, unless you have a lower ilvl KTT and a higher ilvl BB trinket

Getting crit cap is ok but trying to recieve %50 buffed haste means so low mastery (considering impossiblity of reforging) Imo, %40 (or around) haste is ok. otherwise low mastery will not help so much. Btw arcane is still better than frost because our actual stat is multistrike and we try to fill it with strong haste. It is kinda dead end.

P.S : Guys If someone has any good idea regarding optimal haste with crit capping and if u tested it on dummies please share

I've been doing:

Multistrike > critcap = int > haste = mastery till about 35% haste > haste till 50% > crit.

Basically, pick whatever item that has most secondary stats in total, gem crit/haste in red slots while you're under crit cap, crit/mastery in blue while under crit cap, and pure haste in red, pure mastery in yellow.

In my limited experience with the sims, my best result for Crit cap put my Haste at around 44% (exactly 37.5% unbuffed oddly) and ~59% Mastery. On the stat plots, Haste/Mastery are pretty dead even stats until that haste point and then Mastery begins to pull ahead as being better, so feel free to adjust haste/mastery up and down to suit your playstyle.

Note: This was at 586 ilvl and a 200s fight duration. YMMV.

Well, I kind of suck at manual gemming, that's why I was hoping someone could walk through the AMR setup under 'edit weights'. It sounds lame, but its much easier for me to just be told to put gem X in slot Y and I will melt faces.

There are no "mandatory" items to play any spec, ever. If you wanna try frost, go for it.

I went in tonight unbuffed with:

32.70% crit
36.40% haste
73.74% mastery

Cleared all of mythic SoO in about 2 hours, got 95th+ percentile on nearly every fight. MI on every fight, UM on everything pure single target (including Malk) and IN for everything else. Hard to say if that's always the best set-up as kill times are incredibly short.

36.7% crit
37.5% haste
78-79% mastery

I am gemmed pure haste, and still missing some haste/mastery off pieces, as I just made the switch from fire. So far I find I am doing good in raids and having a lot more fun than fire.
