http://www.wowhead.com/spell=116/frostbolt is your filler ability. It doesn't deal a great amount of damage but is your main source of http://www.wowhead.com/spell=190447/brain-freeze and http://www.wowhead.com/spell=112965/fingers-of-frost procs.

http://www.wowhead.com/spell=30455/ice-lance is your main damage dealing ability. http://www.wowhead.com/spell=30455/ice-lance is an instant cast spell and when empowered by http://www.wowhead.com/spell=112965/fingers-of-frost, http://www.wowhead.com/spell=30455/ice-lance is also affected by http://www.wowhead.com/spell=12982/shatter. Additionally, if http://www.wowhead.com/spell=30455/ice-lance hits a target that is frozen it will deal triple damage.

http://www.wowhead.com/spell=44614/flurry is another one of your main damage dealing abilities. http://www.wowhead.com/spell=44614/flurry should only be used when a http://www.wowhead.com/spell=190447/brain-freeze proc is active. When we http://www.wowhead.com/spell=44614/flurry while http://www.wowhead.com/spell=190447/brain-freeze is active it turns in to an instant cast spell that applies the debuff http://www.wowhead.com/spell=228358/winters-chill, causing the target to take damage from your spells as if it were frozen.

http://www.wowhead.com/spell=190356/blizzard is an area of effect ability that is mainly used when there is more that one enemy. In addition to being your core AoE ability it also reduces the cooldown of http://www.wowhead.com/spell=84714/frozen-orb for each enemy hit.

http://www.wowhead.com/spell=12472/icy-veins is your main cooldown ability, it grants us 30% haste for 20 seconds. Icy Veins now also grants http://bfa.wowhead.com/spell=278542 from your Azerite traits which increases your intellect for 10 seconds and also grants on charge of http://bfa.wowhead.com/spell=112965/fingers-of-frost

http://www.wowhead.com/spell=84714/frozen-orb is another one of your main cooldown abilities. http://www.wowhead.com/spell=84714/frozen-orbs main use is to generate http://www.wowhead.com/spell=112965/fingers-of-frost procs. It should be noted that the first tick of http://www.wowhead.com/spell=84714/frozen-orb will always grant 1 http://www.wowhead.com/spell=112965/fingers-of-frost and additional targets does not increase the chance to generate http://www.wowhead.com/spell=112965/fingers-of-frost from http://www.wowhead.com/spell=84714/frozen-orb

http://www.wowhead.com/spell=112965/fingers-of-frost is a proc granted by http://www.wowhead.com/spell=84714/frozen-orb &http://www.wowhead.com/spell=116/frostbolt. Fingers of Frost causes your next http://www.wowhead.com/spell=30455/ice-lance to deal damage as if the target were frozen.

http://www.wowhead.com/spell=190447/brain-freeze is a proc we gain from http://www.wowhead.com/spell=116/frostbolt and http://www.wowhead.com/spell=214634/ebonbolt. Casting http://www.wowhead.com/spell=44614/flurry with a http://www.wowhead.com/spell=190447/brain-freeze proc is instant and applies http://www.wowhead.com/spell=228358/winters-chill which makes your spells treat the target as if frozen for the duration of the debuff.

http://www.wowhead.com/spell=12982/shatter is a passive that increases the critical strike chance of your spells against frozen targets. Targets can be frozen or treated as frozen in different ways e.g. casting http://www.wowhead.com/spell=30455/ice-lance while http://www.wowhead.com/spell=112965/fingers-of-frost is active

Image
http://www.wowhead.com/spell=205027/bone-chilling causes all chill effects to give us Bone Chilling, increasing Frost damage we deal by 0.5% for 8 sec, stacking up to 10 times.

http://www.wowhead.com/spell=205024/lonely-winter removes the ability to use http://www.wowhead.com/spell=31687/summ ... -elemental. However, it increase the damage of http://www.wowhead.com/spell=116/frostbolt, http://www.wowhead.com/spell=30455/ice-lance and http://www.wowhead.com/spell=44614/flurry by 25%.

http://www.wowhead.com/spell=157997/ice-nova causes a whirl of icy wind around the enemy, dealing Frost damage to the target and Frost damage to all other enemies within 8 yards, and freezing them in place for 2 sec.

http://www.wowhead.com/spell=205027 here is the default choice as it provide you with the most damage with http://www.wowhead.com/spell=205024/lonely-winter in a very close second. http://www.wowhead.com/spell=157997/ice-nova doesn't really deal enough damage for it to be used in this tier.
Image
Image
http://www.wowhead.com/spell=235297/glacial-insulation also increases your armour by 200% while Ice Barrier is active. Additionally, when Ice Block fades you instantly gain Ice Barrier.

http://www.wowhead.com/spell=236645/shimmer is a talent that replaces http://www.wowhead.com/spell=1953/blink. It provides us with an additional charge, is not on global cooldown and also can be used while casting.

http://www.wowhead.com/spell=108839/ice-floes is a talent that allows your next spell to be cast while moving as long as the spell is shorter than 10 seconds, this effect has 3 chargers and you can cast it multiple times at once if a lot of movement is imminent

The default choice here is http://www.wowhead.com/spell=236645/shimmer. When used properly, it provides the best overall mobility and allows for higher dps uptime during an encounter. http://www.wowhead.com/spell=108839/ice-floes also has its place in raids when movement can be predicted and the extra http://www.wowhead.com/spell=1953/blink is not necessary. Unfortunately, http://www.wowhead.com/spell=235297/glacial-insulation gets little to no use inside raids as it simply doesn't compare to the other two talents in terms of power.

Image
Image
http://www.wowhead.com/spell=1463/incanters-flow passively increases your damage done building up to 20% increased damage and then diminishing down to 4% increased damage, cycling every 10 sec.

http://www.wowhead.com/spell=55342/mirror-image creates 3 copies of us nearby, which cast spells and attack your enemies lasting 40 seconds.

http://www.wowhead.com/spell=116011/rune-of-power places a Rune of Power on the ground for 10 sec which increases your spell damage by 40% while we stand within 8 yds. Maximum of 2 charges.

http://www.wowhead.com/spell=1463/incanters-flow is the best choice here because of how Frost damage is distributed. Frost has very consistent damage throughout the fight with smaller peaks during cooldowns in comparison to other specs. http://www.wowhead.com/spell=116011/rune-of-power comes in at a close second, the difference between http://www.wowhead.com/spell=116011/rune-of-power and http://www.wowhead.com/spell=1463/incanters-flow is minimal http://www.wowhead.com/spell=55342/mirror-image is simply not as good as the other two and therefore doesn't see any play.

http://www.wowhead.com/spell=205030/frozen-touch increases your change to generate http://www.wowhead.com/spell=112965/fingers-of-frost and http://www.wowhead.com/spell=190447/brain-freeze by 20% This effect is not additive, it is multiplicative. You do not add 20% to the base chance to generate http://www.wowhead.com/spell=112965/fingers-of-frost and http://www.wowhead.com/spell=190447/brain-freeze, instead it is 20% of the base value of both http://www.wowhead.com/spell=112965/fingers-of-frost (15%) and http://www.wowhead.com/spell=190447/brain-freeze (25%) making http://www.wowhead.com/spell=112965/fingers-of-frost 3% and http://www.wowhead.com/spell=190447/brain-freeze a 5% increased chance to proc.

http://bfa.wowhead.com/spell=278309/chain-reaction increases the damage your http://www.wowhead.com/spell=30455/ice-lance deals by 3% stacking up to 5 times for 10 seconds when your http://www.wowhead.com/spell=30455/ice-lance hits a frozen target.

http://bfa.wowhead.com/spell=257537/ebonbolt is exactly the same as it was when we had your Artifact. You launch a bolt of ice at the enemy, dealing Frost damage and granting you Brain Freeze.

All 3 talents are close in damage, http://bfa.wowhead.com/spell=278309/chain-reaction seems to perform better when there are more targets where http://bfa.wowhead.com/spell=257537/ebonbolt and http://www.wowhead.com/spell=205030/frozen-touch perform better on a single or two targets.
Image
Image

http://www.wowhead.com/spell=235224/frigid-winds increases the slow on all your chilling effects by an additional 15%.

http://www.wowhead.com/spell=205036/ice-ward gives your http://www.wowhead.com/spell=122/frost-nova 2 charges.

http://www.wowhead.com/spell=113724/ring-of-frost place a ring on that group at the target location for 10 seconds. Enemies caught in the ring will be incapacitated for 10 seconds.

None of the talents in this row are particularly useful in raid encounters outside niche uses. Select whichever you prefer or is needed for a given encounter. If you just need a talent to select use frigid winds as it is passive

Image
Image
http://www.wowhead.com/spell=270233/freezing-rain makes http://www.wowhead.com/spell=190356/blizzard an instant cast spell and increases its damange by 50% while http://www.wowhead.com/spell=84714/frozen-orb is active.

http://www.wowhead.com/spell=56377/splitting-ice makes your http://www.wowhead.com/spell=30455/ice-lance & http://www.wowhead.com/spell=76613/mastery:-icicles deal 5% increase damage. Additionally, http://www.wowhead.com/spell=30455/ice-lance, http://www.wowhead.com/spell=76613/mastery:-icicles, http://www.wowhead.com/spell=199786/glacial-spike & http://www.wowhead.com/spell=257537/ebonbolt all hit one additional nearby target for 80% of the damage.

http://www.wowhead.com/spell=153595/comet-storm Calls down a series of 7 icy comets on and around the target, that deals Frost damage to all enemies within 6 yds of its impacts.

http://www.wowhead.com/spell=153595/comet-storm is king on single target. http://www.wowhead.com/spell=56377/splitting-ice is the best two target talent and http://www.wowhead.com/spell=270233/freezing-rain becomes better when there are more targets. Because all three talents are very close in damage it is recommended that you sim yourself for this tier especially.

Image
Image
http://www.wowhead.com/spell=155149/thermal-void increases the duration of your http://www.wowhead.com/spell=12472/icy-veins by 10 seconds Additionally, your http://www.wowhead.com/spell=30455/ice-lance 's against frozen targets extend your http://www.wowhead.com/spell=12472/icy-veins by an additional 1 sec.

http://www.wowhead.com/spell=205021/ray-of-frost channels an icy beam at the enemy for 5 sec, dealing Frost damage every 1 sec and slowing movement by 60%. Each time http://www.wowhead.com/spell=205021/ray-of-frost deals damage, its damage and snare increases by 10%. Generates 2 charges of http://www.wowhead.com/spell=112965/fingers-of-frost over its duration.

http://www.wowhead.com/spell=199786/glacial-spike conjures a massive spike of ice, and merges your current Icicles into it. It impales your target, dealing damage plus the damage stored in your Icicles, and freezes the target in place for 4 sec. Damage may interrupt the freeze effect. Requires 5 Icicles to cast. Note: Ice Lance no longer launches Icicles.

For both single and two targets you want to be taking http://www.wowhead.com/spell=199786/glacial-spike as it is the highest damage output. http://www.wowhead.com/spell=155149/thermal-void becomes stronger when there are more than two targets. http://www.wowhead.com/spell=205021/ray-of-frost doesn't really deal enough damage to be competitive with the other two and it annoying to use in raiding.

The Frost Mage rotation is relatively simple, consisting only of a few abilities. The main abilities you are going to cast are http://www.wowhead.com/spell=116/frostbolt, http://www.wowhead.com/spell=30455/ice-lance and http://www.wowhead.com/spell=44614/flurry.

Opening sequence:

  1. Cast http://www.wowhead.com/spell=116/frostbolt 2 seconds before the pull timer ends. Once you have finished casting http://www.wowhead.com/spell=116/frostbolt your next opening cast will be http://www.wowhead.com/spell=12472/icy-veins
General Target Rotation:

The rotation at its core is fairly basic, we are going to spend the majority of your time casting http://www.wowhead.com/spell=116/frostb ... 614/flurry with a http://www.wowhead.com/spell=190447/brain-freeze Proc, followed by an http://www.wowhead.com/spell=30455/ice-lance.

Below is a list of spells with a small explanation in priority order.

  1. http://www.wowhead.com/spell=44614/flurry should only be cast if you have a http://www.wowhead.com/spell=190447/brain-freeze and should always be cast after one of the following spells if you do not have http://www.wowhead.com/spell=199786/glacial-spike talented: http://www.wowhead.com/spell=214634/ebonbolt (if talented), http://www.wowhead.com/spell=116/frostbolt. If you do not have http://www.wowhead.com/spell=214634/ebonbolt talented, http://www.wowhead.com/spell=116/frostbolt should be before http://www.wowhead.com/spell=44614/flurry if you have a http://www.wowhead.com/spell=190447/brain-freeze proc.

If you do have http://www.wowhead.com/spell=199786/glacial-spike talented, the usage of Flurry changes. Cast Flurry If you have 5 stacks of http://www.wowhead.com/spell=76613/mastery:-icicles after casting http://www.wowhead.com/spell=199786/glacial-spike, or if you have less than 3 stacks of http://www.wowhead.com/spell=76613/mastery:-icicles cast it after http://www.wowhead.com/spell=116/frostbolt. If you will have >=4 http://www.wowhead.com/spell=76613/mastery:-icicles at the end of your http://www.wowhead.com/spell=116/frostbolt cast you hold http://www.wowhead.com/spell=190447/brain-freeze for http://www.wowhead.com/spell=199786/glacial-spike.
  2. Always cast http://www.wowhead.com/spell=84714/frozen-orb off cooldown.
  3. http://www.wowhead.com/spell=190356/blizzard should cast if there are currently more than 2 active targets or if there is more than 1 target and http://www.wowhead.com/spell=190356/blizzard is an instant cast from http://www.wowhead.com/spell=270233/freezing-rain & you have less than 2 stacks of http://www.wowhead.com/spell=112965/fingers-of-frost
  4. Always http://www.wowhead.com/spell=30455/ice-lance if you have a http://www.wowhead.com/spell=112965/fingers-of-frost proc.
  5. If talented, you want to cast http://www.wowhead.com/spell=205021/ray-of-frost off cooldown if http://www.wowhead.com/spell=84714/frozen-orb is not currently travelling to or damaging the target.
  6. cast http://www.wowhead.com/spell=153595/comet-storm off cooldown (if talented)
  7. Cast http://www.wowhead.com/spell=214634/ebonbolt (if talented) on cooldown followed by http://www.wowhead.com/spell=44614/flurry then http://www.wowhead.com/spell=30455/ice-lance. However, if you have http://www.wowhead.com/spell=199786/glacial-spike talented you will save the https://www.wowhead.com/spell=190447/brain-freeze generated from http://www.wowhead.com/spell=214634/ebonbolt to shatter your http://www.wowhead.com/spell=199786/glacial-spike if you have 4 or more http://www.wowhead.com/spell=76613/mastery:-icicles
  8. If enabled, you cast http://www.wowhead.com/spell=199786/glacial-spike when available and only when you have a http://www.wowhead.com/spell=190447/brain-freeze. However, if you have http://www.wowhead.com/spell=56377/splitting-ice talented and there is more than 1 target you should cast http://www.wowhead.com/spell=199786/glacial-spike when available, even without a http://www.wowhead.com/spell=190447/brain-freeze
  9. Cast http://www.wowhead.com/spell=157997/ice-nova
  10. Cast http://www.wowhead.com/spell=116/frostbolt
Image
  1. Use http://www.wowhead.com/spell=12472/icy-veins off cooldown.
  2. Use http://www.wowhead.com/spell=55342/mirror-image (if talented) off cooldown.
  3. http://www.wowhead.com/spell=116011/rune-of-power is used if the target will die is greater than 10 seconds + the cast time of http://www.wowhead.com/spell=116011/rune-of-power and the time until the boss dies is less than 25 seconds
  4. If you have http://www.wowhead.com/spell=116011/rune-of-power talented, cast http://www.wowhead.com/spell=116011/rune-of-power if you can cast http://www.wowhead.com/spell=199786/glacial-spike with a http://www.wowhead.com/spell=190447/brain-freeze proc, casting http://www.wowhead.com/spell=116011/rune-of-power, http://www.wowhead.com/spell=199786/glacial-spike, followed by http://www.wowhead.com/spell=44614/flurry and finally https://www.wowhead.com/spell=30455/ice-lance. If you have http://www.wowhead.com/spell=214634/ebonbolt talented, you can cast http://www.wowhead.com/spell=199786/glacial-spike then you cast http://www.wowhead.com/spell=116011/rune-of-power followed by https://www.wowhead.com/spell=214634/ebonbolt. If at the end of the http://www.wowhead.com/spell=214634/ebonbolt cast you already have a http://www.wowhead.com/spell=190447/brain-freeze proc then you follow https://www.wowhead.com/spell=214634/ebonbolt with a https://www.wowhead.com/spell=44614/flurry and https://www.wowhead.com/spell=30455/ice-lance then you cast http://www.wowhead.com/spell=199786/glacial-spike followed by https://www.wowhead.com/spell=44614/flurry and finally https://www.wowhead.com/spell=30455/ice-lance. However, if at the end of your https://www.wowhead.com/spell=214634/ebonbolt cast you do not already have a Brain Freeze http://www.wowhead.com/spell=190447/brain-freeze proc you will save the proc for http://www.wowhead.com/spell=199786/glacial-spike and cast https://www.wowhead.com/spell=199786/glacial-spike, https://www.wowhead.com/spell=44614/flurry (shattering the https://www.wowhead.com/spell=199786/glacial-spike) and finally https://www.wowhead.com/spell=30455/ice-lance.
  5. If you have http://www.wowhead.com/spell=116011/rune-of-power talented and you are about to cap on the charges available, the will use a charge of one of the following spells in this order of priority: https://www.wowhead.com/spell=84714/frozen-orb, https://www.wowhead.com/spell=214634/ebonbolt (if talented), https://www.wowhead.com/spell=153595/comet-storm (if talented), https://www.wowhead.com/spell=205021/ray-of-frost (if talented)

Below are a list of addons I personally use to help me play Mage.

Weak Auras - I can not make enough good comments about Weak Auras, this addon is very powerful and with the right knowledge you can do almost anything with it. There are some preset Weak Aura's you should look in to:
Big Wigs - there are many boss mods out there but Big Wigs is my personal preference because of how easy it is to change the addon to suit your needs. Additionally, the team at Big Wigs are constantly updating their addon based on high end raiding feedback in order to provide the best support possible.

Elvui - I am a simple man and enjoy a simple looking UI, which is my main reason choosing Elvui. Simple to the core and easy to modify, Elvui is a very nice clean looking UI and also provide a skin addon for skin your Weak Aura's so they look the same.

Opie - if you're like me and play all 3 specs in multiple situations then you probably have a lot of gear in your bags and a lot of gear sets. Opie is great for handling that and creates a nice, fast interface for your to quickly switch gear. You can also assign other things to the wheel in Opie like macros, world markers etc.

The final part of this guide will cover a few advanced things that will net us a small DPS increase or how to capitalise on some small bugs that exist in the game.

First and foremost is Double Ice Lance. This has been a hot topic ever since it was possible in Nighthold. After various changes to travel time, animations and what not, the way we approach it has changed slightly. The way to execute it is the same, but the haste requirements, distance and movement has changed. The aim of Double Ice Lance is have two Ice Lance's hit within 1 Winters Chill debuff. If this is done successfully, it's around a 3% DPS increase.

In order to pull off a successful Double Ice Lance your cast sequence will be Flurry -> Ice Lance -> Ice Lance (Note: all the same rotation rules listed above still apply). However, unlike before there is some movement involved, after casting the Flurry you must start walking towards the target and casting Ice Lance until both Ice Lance's have been cast. Below there is an image showing the required haste in percentage and also the range the target must be.

Dutchmagoz created a great Weak Aura for this, which can be found here

Please be aware that although you must be within 40 yards to cast a spell at the target, spells will sometimes need to travel further to reach the targets hit box. A good example of a boss like this is Krosus & Fallen Avatar.

      Image

As an extension to the above there is also Shimmer-Lancing. While it is similar to the above in the spells you cast you also need to add shimmer in to the rotation. The best way to achieve this is Flurry -> Ice Lance -> Shimmer -> Ice Lance (Note: all the same rotation rules listed above still apply). Because you cover a great distance with Shimmer, you need less haste to pull it off. Having just Icy Veins or Bloodlust will allow you land two Ice Lance's inside a single Winter's Chill debuff.

More advanced things to come. Soon tm.

      Change Log:
      1. Added BFA Change Overview which lists all Battle for Azeroth changes for Frost Mages.
      2. Updated talent sections with new images & descriptions.
      3. Updated rotation
      4. Enhancements updated
      5. Removed BFA Change overview as BFA has been out for some time now.

Great thread! My only issue is that every single sim with my current gear prefers me to run Lonely Winter, Frozen Touch, and TV for single target and only switching to GS for cleave. I've seen a lot of talk about GS and The T1 Pet talent coming back but my sims keep saying no.

If it helps I'm full T21 with Shard Braces right now but my sims are gonna make me swap bracers out for helm.

My sims also showed Lonely Winter performing better than Bone Chilling. Playing with the pet is also awkward; maybe to level up but in raid/pvp content LW seems the better choice. I also had GS as the superior t7 talent when I switched to the helm instead of bracers. This added a huge increase in overall sim DPS. TV was more or less equal at 3 targets and only pulled away for 4+.

Personally I really like the gameplay of GS + Lonely Winter. The burst dps of GS + insta flurry is insane, especially in PVP. I had been leaning towards Fire main for the new xpac, but the more I play GS the more I lean towards sticking with frost.

Tbh who cares what best atm. Like these talents are scalled for 120 and not for the current state. Just wait untill your lvl 120 and than go full hamm simming without legos and proper gear.

Nice guide btw love it :)

interesting GS is fun to play but it still sims lower than TV/LW than GS/LW for my sims (236 GS I think?)

Hi, thank you so much for the great guide! Started playing my mage again for the first time in years and it's so useful to have this and be able to catch up. Just have a couple of questions though:

1. Just noticed that it's not here in the rotation. But since flurry with a brain freeze proc applies winter chill on my target, do i cast ice lance after every flurry? It's what i had been doing while leveling up (didn't have glacial spike), however in the rotation section i noticed that you only mentioned casting ice lance after flurry if i don't have ebonbolt talented (#7 on rotation).

1b. If i do cast ice lance after every flurry, is it correct to prioritize ice lance with fingers of frost before flurry with brainfreeze > ice lance then?

2. If i'm at 5 icicles, my ebonbolt is on cooldown and i don't have a brainfreeze proc, i spam frostbolt until i get the brainfreeze proc. However, since i'm spamming frostbolt, once i get the proc i'll be midcast of my next frostbolt. Is it beneficial to cancel the midcast frostbolt for glacial spike, or should i just finish the frostbolt and glacial spike after?

Edit: Added 1b

You cast Ice Lance everytime you cast a Brain Freeze Flurry. If you have existing Ice Lance procs (Fingers of Frost), and Brain Freeze pops up, you will dump Ice Lances if you're not casting Frostbolt.

If you were in the middle of Frostbolt then you cast Flurry right after, which means you'll "munch" an existing Fingers of Frost. Still works out to be better dps.

Having Glacial Spike talented changes your rotation a bit in that:
1. If you have 3 icicles, and have a flurry proc, you do not use flurry after your frostbolt.
2. If you have 5 icicles, and flurry proc is not up, use ebonbolt to proc flurry. Then do Glacial Spike -> Flurry -> Ice Lance

If you have 3 icicles, AND a flurry proc AND Fingers of Frost procs... Ignore the Fingers procs unless you're moving/repositioning, and instead go directly into your Glacial Spike rotation.

In regards to cancelling a pre-existing frostbolt cast because you have the Brain Freeze and Glacial up... you have to do it really quick (in the tune of 300ms delay) for a benefit. This kind of changes if you have the Splitting Ice talent, where you'd immediately cast Glacial Spike regardless of Brain Freeze procs or not during AOE scenarios... if Brain Freeze happens to pop up when you're already casting Glacial Spike it's just an added bonus.
However on Single-Target it's worth cancelling Frostbolt if you're really quick.

Cleared everything up on doing my rotation. Thank you!

Just a question on ignoring finger procs. When i have 3 icicles + brainfreeze + fingers of frost you mentioned going straight into glacial spike, what is the reason for this? I understand not using flurry anymore because i want to save it for glacial spike, but the fingers proc seems to be wasted. Just trying to understand, but i will start doing it nevertheless. Hahahaha :)

If you have 3 icicles + Fingers + Brain, you'd still build to 5 icicles for the GS -> Flurry -> Ice Lance because the GS spike damage does more damage than dumping Fingers.

This is especially true when you have a 33% crit cap so your GS always crit.

However, I'd dump Fingers if I need to move out of something or if I need to reposition.

I see, thanks for clarifying! I thought maybe it had something to do with the chance of icicle stacks falling off. Hahahaha

Hi! I have another question, under 3 icicles is there a specific reason that we still only cast flurry after casting frostbolt? I was just wondering if say i was moving and i had a brainfreeze proc with less than 3 icicle stacks, should i just go ahead and cast flurry > ice lance? Or wait until i'm able to cast a frostbolt?

If you're under 3 icicles, AND you have a Flurry proc then you do flurry -> Icelance combo in all circumstances.

If you are under 3 icicles, and DON'T HAVE a flurry proc then:
1. Keep casting Frostbolt and dump fingers as long as Flurry doesn't proc
and
2. If after casting frostbolt and flurry procs and you have fingers proc and you have 4 icicles... build to 5 icicles and use GS -> Flurry -> Icelance (essentially you've lost the chance to proc a flurry and munched an icelance but if your GS shatters you're still ahead in dps)

Oh sorry let me rephrase. If i'm moving and have a bf proc (and less than 3 icicles), is it ok to cast a flurry > icelance combo even without the frostbolt (because i'm repositioning)? I'm just wondering if the frostbolt is integral to casting flurry or not because of this part below:

"Cast Flurry If you have 5 stacks of Mastery: Icicles after casting Glacial Spike, or if you have less than 3 stacks of Mastery: Icicles cast it after Frostbolt"

This is true.

Unless you're moving, which becomes use whatever procs available... but prioritise Ice lance procs over Flurry procs. If you have NO procs and you're moving, you should Ice Lance anyway.

I have a question specifically regarding the Flurry after Glacial Spike.
It sometimes feels like Winter's Chill does not have any effect on the incoming Glacial Spike., or I cast Flurry too early or something like that.

This is what I do in that part of the rotation:
- Have 5 icicles
- Have a Brain Freeze proc
- Start casting Glacial Spike
- Immediatly when Glacial cast finishes I launch Flurry.

I did this for some time on a target dummy and it felt like the Glacial Spike was not critting as mush as I would expect.
From every guide I've read it seems to be thet Flurry travels faster than Glacial Spike hence applying the debuff before the Glacial Spike arrives. So this is just bad luck I guess?

(18% crit x 2) + 25% (Shatter) = 61% crit and I only had about 60% non crits on around 50 casts.

I tried experimenting with delaying the Flurry a little bit depending on the distance from the target because I thought that maybe the Winter's Chill debuff would be gone for when the Glacial Spike arrived if casted immediatly.

Hi Rexdan,

It's most likely related to the fact that nobody is near the crit cap so definitely you'll have some GS that won't crit.

On a more nefarious note, if you're playing with relatively high latency you'll find it'll prevent you from executing the combo smoothly.

Also make sure you set your Spellqueue window via:

/console SpellQueueWindow X

X = your tolerance in ms (this should be the same as your ping apparently)

Hi again! Looking to try this out as i normally have 200ms ping. Thanks! :)

Just wondering would you know what the default value is in case i decide on reverting the value?
